You will use this hands-on activity to help high school students learn about Newton’s Second and Third Laws of Motion.
Engineers take forces of motion into consideration when designing rockets and selecting rocket propellent to meet specific launch parameters. Students will apply Newton’s Laws to design, test, redesign, and retest rockets to optimize the distance a rocket travels from launch.
In the media carousel above you will also find:
- the "Build the Future" introductory video to be shown to students at the beginning of your presentation
- the PowerPoint presentation that highlights the many different types of engineers
To prepare for your classroom visit, about two weeks in advance, review the information in the Engineer Guide and the materials provided for this activity. Contact the classroom educator to confirm that they are able to collect the "gathered by teacher materials" as well as select and reserve an outdoor launch location.
