You will use this hands-on activity to help elementary students learn about the vast size differential of nanoscale compared to visible scale objects.
To engage students with the topic of scale, you will read a book to students that shows the size of visible objects and introduces the concept of objects on the molecular level, including atoms and quarks. You then will complete a hands-on demonstration showing students a product developed with nanotechnology that is on the market today. Students will work in small groups to apply what they have learned to create a size sequencing pictoral timeline featuring objects from the book and the demonstration.
In the media carousel above you will also find the Build the Future intro video and links to two media spotlights with video clips and other information related to the topic of nanotechnology.
To prepare for your classroom visit, about two weeks in advance, review the information in the Engineer Guide and the materials provided for this activity.
